Paint

Loftus Designs uses Behr's Premium Plus 100% acrylic latex paint. These high quality paints give a finish that is durable, scrub-able, non-toxic and child safe. You may select any colors of your choice by visiting the Behr Color Center inside your local Home Depot.  Take home complimentary swatches of the colors you most prefer.  Our design consultant will be happy to help you make your final color selections.  You can preview the Behr collection by visiting www.behr.com.  However, because the colors you see on your computer screen will vary from the actual colors, you should look at a true sample of each color before making your final choices.


Stain

Loftus Designs uses both oil-based and water-based wood stain.  Water-based colors are completely child-safe and environmentally friendly.  Oil-based stains are child-safe after drying and are used when the desired finish can not be obtained with water-based colors.  Stained surfaces are protected with an appropriate polyurethane clear coat. Polyurethane coatings give a finish that is durable, washable, non-toxic and child safe. In addition to the colors listed, custom blended colors are also available for a nominal additional charge. Color samples viewed on-line can vary significantly from the true color. Use the color samples below only to form a general impression of the color.  After placing an order, you will be sent a sample of your stain selection to verify your color choice.

Specialty Finishes
Loftus Designs offers several specialty finishes for an additional charge.  A description of each is listed below.

Stenciling and Hand Painting
Stenciling is available in a vast array of themes including stars, animals, flowers, ribbons and much more.  Stenciling is protected with a colorless polyurethane.  Custom hand-painting is also available.  Contact us for more information about hand-painting.

Pearlescent Shimmer
Our translucent pearl coating can add the soft sparkle and shimmer of a pearl finish to most any painted furnishing. First, the furnishing is painted with the color of your choice and then after painting, the translucent pearl finish is applied. The Pearlescent shimmer gives a unique pearl luster to the furnishing with only a slight change in the original paint color.

Color Wash
A color washed technique gives your furnishing a blended finish of varied color depths. The piece is first painted with a light value of your selected color. Then a translucent darker value of the same color is rubbed on top of the paint. The two layers blend together giving a color washed finish. Colorless polyurethane is applied to preserve the look.

Weathered Finish
A weathered finish gives your furnishing a sun-bleached, lightly worn look. First, the furnishing is painted with one light coat of your selected color. This layer of paint is light enough that the wood grain is still somewhat visible through the paint. Then, the edges of the piece are lightly sanded to look gently worn. Colorless satin polyurethane is applied to preserve the look.

Distressed Stain
A distressed finish creates the look of a stained furnishing that has been used for many years. After staining your furnishing with your selected color, the edges and some surfaces are lightly sanded in areas that would have naturally worn during years of use. After staining and distressing, colorless satin polyurethane is applied to protect the wood and preserve the look of the finish.

Distressed Paint
A distressed finish creates the look of a painted furnishing that has been used for many years. After painting your furnishing with your selected color, the edges and some surfaces are lightly sanded in areas that would have naturally worn during years of use. A two-color look can be achieved by using a different color primer than the selected paint color. There is a small additional charge for two colors.

Antiqued Paint or Stain
An antiqued finish creates the look of a furnishing that has been around for many years, but not necessarily worn. After painting or staining your furnishing with your selected color, a light layer of stain is hand-rubbed over the entire piece giving an aged appearance. The stain color used to antique the piece is selected to compliment the base color. Colorless satin polyurethane is applied to preserve the look.

Distressed and Antiqued Paint
This finish combines both distressed and antiqued finishes to give the ultimate look of both age and wear to your furnishing. Once completed, the look is protected with colorless satin polyurethane.
